The UAE-India CEPA Council (UICC), in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), organized a business roundtable in Chennai on Wednesday for local exporters.

More than 20 participants from various sectors, including logistics, automotive, agriculture, and healthcare, attended the roundtable, as per a press release from the UAE Embassy in New Delhi. The meeting provided an opportunity for business owners to explore how they can benefit from the UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the broader bilateral strategic partnership.

Discussions at the roundtable focused on economic, trade, and investment opportunities. Colonel Shubhransh Srivastav, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, DP World, briefed participants on Bharat Mart, a platform set to enhance Indian SME exports to the UAE and the MENA region.

Sameer Nawani, chief representative in India for the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighted investment opportunities for Indian businesses in Dubai.

Director of UAE-India CEPA Council, Ahmed Aljneibi, expressed enthusiasm about hosting the business roundtable in Chennai, highlighting the city’s vibrant economic sectors. He stressed the CEPA Council’s commitment to strengthening ties between UAE and Indian businesses.

CII National Council member TT Ashok emphasized the strong friendship and strategic partnership between India and the UAE. He highlighted the rapid progress in bilateral cooperation, including the swift signing of the CEPA and efforts to achieve a $100 billion goal in trade.

The roundtable included an open discussion on opportunities to enhance engagement between UAE and Indian business sectors, as well as measures to ease regulatory obstacles for importers and exporters.

The UAE Embassy in Delhi described the CEPA as a cornerstone of the enduring and mutually beneficial relationship between the UAE and India. The UICC aims to foster dialogue, facilitate cooperation, and enhance trade ties between UAE and Indian businesses for mutual growth and prosperity.

India and the UAE signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2022 during a meeting between Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and a UAE delegation led by Minister of Economy, Abdulla bin Touq Al-Marri, and Minister of State for Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi.
