Centre approves large-scale procurement of pulses and oilseeds under the Price Support Scheme; farmers in four states to benefit

Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday approved large-scale procurement of pulses and oilseeds at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for four states under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), in a move aimed at ensuring remunerative prices for farmers and protecting them from distress sales.

The approvals, granted through video conferencing, cover Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Haryana, with Uttar Pradesh accounting for the largest share of the procurement package.

For the Summer 2026 season, Uttar Pradesh has been cleared for the procurement of 48,298 metric tonnes (MT) of moong, 97,970 MT of urad and 41,718 MT of groundnut. The total MSP value of the approved procurement exceeds ₹1,490 crore, making the state the biggest beneficiary under the initiative.

Gujarat has received approval for the procurement of 18,250 MT of moong for the Summer 2026 season under the Price Support Scheme. The procurement, valued at more than ₹160 crore at MSP, is aimed at helping moong growers secure remunerative prices for their produce.

In Tamil Nadu, the government has revised upwards the moong procurement target for the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2025-26 from 885 MT to 990 MT, allowing for an additional procurement of 105 MT. The approved procurement carries an MSP value of ₹8.68 crore.

Haryana, too, has received approval for the procurement of 2,115 MT of moong during the Summer 2026 season. The total MSP value of the procurement exceeds ₹18 crore and is expected to provide price support to farmers in the state.

The latest approvals are part of the government’s efforts to ensure that farmers receive the benefits of the Minimum Support Price mechanism and are insulated from adverse market price movements. The procurement exercise is also expected to strengthen support for pulse and oilseed cultivation in the four states.
