External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday bid farewell to outgoing UK High Commissioner Alex Ellis, expressing gratitude for his efforts in strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and the United Kingdom.
In a post on X, Jasishankar said: “Glad to receive UK High Commissioner @AlexWEllis on his farewell call. Thank him for strengthening our bilateral relationship.”
Alex Ellis was appointed as the British High Commissioner to India in 2021.
Before that, he served as Deputy National Security Adviser for the Integrated Review on foreign and security policy. He also worked as Director General in the Department for Exiting the EU for three years, according to the UK government.
Ellis served as British Ambassador to Brazil from 2013 to 2017 and to Portugal from 2007 to 2010. He was a member of the cabinet of the President of the European Commission, with responsibilities including energy, climate change, competition, development, trade, and strategy.
Ellis began his civil service career as part of the team supporting South Africa’s transition to multi-party democracy following Nelson Mandela’s release.
