India and Bangladesh are set to engage in discussions on border management during the 54th BSF-BGB Director General-level border coordination conference, scheduled from March 5 to 9 in Dhaka.

Heading the Indian delegation is Nitin Agrawal, Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), while Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh, will lead the Bangladesh delegation.

According to the BSF, the conference will focus on various issues related to border management, including the prevention of border crimes, border infrastructure, the effective implementation of the coordinated border management plan (CBMP), riverbank protection works, and water sharing between the two countries.

The primary objective of these talks is to combat cross-border crimes effectively and enhance coordination between the security forces and agencies of both countries.

The last BSF-BGB conference was held at BSF Camp Chhawala in Delhi from June 11 to 14, 2023. The Border Security Force (BSF), one of India’s seven Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), was established following the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965. Its duties include safeguarding the international borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, as well as conducting anti-infiltration, anti-Naxal, and counter-insurgency operations.
