On Thursday, the Public Prosecution in Kuwait announced that a Kuwaiti national and an expatriate have been remanded in custody on charges of “erroneous killing” related to the devastating fire at an apartment building in Mangaf that claimed 49 lives.
The two individuals face several charges, including causing death and injury due to negligence of fire safety and security precautions. Investigations into the tragic incident are ongoing, with a special team inspecting the fire scene and visiting hospitals to question the injured.
According to the Kuwait Fire Force, the deadly fire in Al-Mangaf was caused by an electrical circuit malfunction. This conclusion was reached after a field examination of the six-story building where the fire occurred on Wednesday.
In the aftermath of the fire, First Deputy Prime Minister, Defense Minister, and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Al-Sabah, along with Minister of Public Works and Minister of Municipality Dr. Nora Al-Mashaan, led an extensive inspection campaign on illegal properties in various areas of Kuwait on Thursday.
The campaign, involving the Interior Ministry, Kuwait Municipality, Kuwait Fire Force, Ministry of Electricity and Water, and Public Authority for Manpower, included inspections in Al-Mangaf, Al-Mahboula, Khaitan, and Jileeb Al-Shuyoukh.
Lending a helping hand to the bereaved families, prominent NRI businessman and Chairman of the UAE-based Lulu Group, M.A. Yusuffali, announced a donation of Rs. 5 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic Kuwait fire.
