Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, held a telephonic conversation on Tuesday, during which they reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening ties between the two countries.

According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi thanked the Qatari Emir for his warm wishes and positive sentiments towards the people of India. The two leaders also recalled PM Modi’s visit to Qatar in February, with the Indian leader extending an invitation to Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani to visit India at an early date.

In a post on X, “Pleased to speak with my friend, the Amir of Qatar HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani. I thank him for his warm wishes and positive sentiments towards India. We reaffirmed our commitment to advance India-Qatar ties to unprecedented heights.”

During the call, PM Modi also extended birthday wishes to the Qatar Emir and conveyed greetings on the upcoming Eid Al Adha festival.

“Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi received a congratulatory telephone call from the Amir of the State of Qatar, H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani today,” the PMO said in a statement.

“Prime Minister thanked His Highness for his warm wishes and positive sentiments towards the people of India. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the friendly and multifaceted ties between India and Qatar,” it added.

The phone call from the Qatari Emir comes as several world leaders, including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, and others, have congratulated PM Modi on his re-election for a third consecutive term in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

PM Modi and his team of ministers took the oath of office on Sunday, with President Droupadi Murmu administering the ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Several heads of state and government, including the Prime Ministers of Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, attended the swearing-in ceremony.
