In a significant boost for the transgender community, Bihar has appointed a transgender person as a police sub-inspector for the first time.

Manvi Madhu Kashyap, the newly appointed officer, credited her family’s unwavering support for her success. “My parents, brothers, and sisters stood by me during the toughest times,” Kashyap told ANI.

Kashyap recounted her struggles to pursue her studies, as many institutions initially denied her admission. She thanked her mentor, “Rehman Sir,” for helping her overcome these adversities.

Kashyap expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other officials for their support. “I would like to thank Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Rehman Sir, Garima Ma’am, and all the other people who helped me reach here.”

Several states have taken measures to protect the rights of transgender individuals and ensure their representation in government jobs.

Last month, Tripura’s social welfare department directed all district magistrates to establish transgender protection cells aimed at addressing grievances and enhancing the community’s welfare.

Lalfaktlinga Hragnchal, Director of Tripura’s Social Welfare and Social Education Department, emphasized the state’s commitment to transgender welfare. “These cells will focus on safety and security-related issues for the LGBTQIA+ community,” Lalfaktlinga said.
