The Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has reported a significant increase in the number of new workers enrolled under its scheme in May 2024. According to provisional payroll data, 23.05 lakh new employees joined the ESI scheme during this month.
In May 2024, 20,110 new establishments were also brought under the social security ambit of the ESI Scheme, ensuring more workers receive social security benefits. Year-on-year analysis shows a 14% growth in net registrations compared to May 2023. Specifically, 20.23 lakh new employees were registered in May 2023, while 23.05 lakh new employees were registered in May 2024, reflecting an increase of 2.82 lakh registrations.
The data reveals that out of the 23.05 lakh new employees added in May 2024, 11.15 lakh, or approximately 48.37%, belong to the age group of up to 25 years. Gender-wise analysis shows that 4.47 lakh female members were enrolled in May 2024. Additionally, 60 transgender employees registered under the ESI Scheme in May 2024, demonstrating ESIC’s commitment to providing benefits to every section of society.
