Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Keir Starmer on his decisive victory in the UK general elections, expressing enthusiasm for a productive partnership with the Labour leader.

“Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to @Keir_Starmer on the remarkable victory in the UK general elections. I look forward to our positive and constructive collaboration to further strengthen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all areas, fostering mutual growth and prosperity,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

In another post, PM Modi thanked the outgoing PM, Rishi Sunak, for his leadership during his tenure.

Following the Labour Party’s landslide victory, Sunak announced he would meet King Charles to formally resign as Prime Minister and also step down as leader of the Conservative Party

“I have given this job my all, but you have sent a clear signal that the government of the United Kingdom must change, and yours is the only judgment that matters,” Sunak said in a speech to voters outside the prime minister’s office in Downing Street.

“I have heard your anger, your disappointment and I take responsibility for this loss. To all the Conservative candidates and campaigners who worked tirelessly, but without success, I’m sorry that we could not deliver what your efforts deserved.”
