Heavy rainfall in Gujarat has caused severe flooding, leading to widespread disruptions and road closures across the state.
In Jamnagar, the road connecting Padana Patiya to Changa Patiya has been closed due to flooding, and a section of a small bridge on Sir PN Road has been washed away, further complicating the movement of commuters.
In response to the escalating situation, the Indian Army has been deployed to support ongoing relief efforts. At the request of the Gujarat government, six Army columns have been mobilized to conduct rescue operations in the severely affected areas.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is also actively engaged, having rescued 95 people so far as part of their ongoing efforts.
Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel said that over 5,000 people have been relocated, and more than 12,000 individuals have been rescued as of Wednesday, following the torrential rains in Vadodara.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to assess the flood situation and review the measures being taken to assist those affected.
“The Prime Minister provided guidance on matters such as sanitation and public health in the flooded areas. He also reiterated the Central Government’s full support,” said Patel.
The India Meteorological Department has forecasted extremely heavy rainfall in Saurashtra and Kutch, with very heavy rainfall expected across the rest of Gujarat.
