One terrorist killed in anti-infiltration operation in J&K’s Kupwara

Security forces killed a terrorist in a joint anti-infiltration operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said on Thursday.

The operation, conducted by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, took place during the intervening night of August 28-29 in the Tangdhar area of Kupwara.

In a post on X, the Chinar Corps said, “Based on intelligence inputs regarding likely infiltration bids, a joint anti-infiltration operation was launched by the #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice on the intervening night of 28-29 Aug 24 in the general area of Tangdhar, Kupwara. One terrorist is likely to have been neutralised.” The operation is ongoing, according to the Chinar Corps.

Simultaneously, another search operation is underway in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir following an exchange of fire between terrorists and security forces on Wednesday.

The operation began in the general area of Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, “During the search operation, contact was established with the terrorists at about 11:45 p.m. on August 28, leading to an exchange of fire near the Kheri Mohra area.” Further details are awaited.

Earlier on Wednesday, Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, Army Commander of the Northern Command, along with 16 Corps Commander Lt Gen Navin Sachdeva, visited forward areas along the Line of Control in the Sunderbani Sector to review the security situation. Kumar also visited supporting units and urged all ranks to maintain comprehensive operational readiness.
