Paris Olympics: Aman Sehrawat advances to quarterfinals of men’s freestyle 57 kg

August 8, 2024 4:13 PM IST

Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat made a strong start to his campaign at the ongoing Paris Olympics, securing a victory in his round of 16 match in the men’s 57 kg freestyle competition on Thursday.

Aman defeated former European champion Vladimir Egorov 10-0 in the first round to advance to the quarterfinals. The quarterfinals are scheduled for 4:20 PM.

Aman Sehrawat secured a dominant victory by technical superiority (10-0) over North Macedonian rival Vladimir Egorov at the Paris Olympics 2024 on August 8.

Egorov required medical attention for his knee following Aman’s relentless attack and appeared to be struggling after the first round.

Despite this, he was unable to mount a comeback, as Aman executed a takedown to earn two additional points.

Aman’s semifinal bout is scheduled for later today at around 4:20 PM. He is the only male wrestler from India to qualify for the Olympics, and he displayed exceptional defense while consistently overpowering his 29-year-old opponent, a former European champion, with precise leg holds to win the match by technical superiority (10-0).

Meanwhile, India’s Anshu Malik lost 2-7 to the USA’s Helen Maroulis in the women’s 57 kg freestyle category.

Earlier, World Championships medalist Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement from wrestling on Thursday after being disqualified in the 50 kg freestyle wrestling final at the Paris Olympics.
