Floods claim 101 Lives, over 3,000 rescued as torrential rains wreak havoc on homes and infrastructure

The Armed Police Force of Nepal has confirmed 101 deaths with more than 48 deaths in Kathmandu Valley alone. 14 people died in Kavrepalanchok, seven people died in Makwanpur, five in Panchthar, four in Sindhupalchok and three in Dolakha. Nine people are missing in Koshi, one in Madhesh province, 21 in Kathmandu Valley, 39 in Bagmati and 2 in Lumbini province. Likewise, 64 people have gone missing in other districts, including five in Panchthar, four in Jhapa, and five in Sindhupalchowk.

According to the police, more than 1500 people have been rescued from Kathmandu Valley, 853 people have been rescued from Koshi, 56 from Madhesh province, and 494 from Bagmati.

Acting Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh has directed all government machinery to mobilize quick disaster response and scheduled an All-party meeting at 1 pm today in PMO, Singh Durbar to discuss a further emergency response. Security personnel are working round the clock in search, rescue, relief and rehabilitation with the help of civil servants, community-based organisations, political parties, civil society and local people themselves.
