As anticipation builds for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the Indian diaspora, the air in New York’s Long Island is alive with the beats of Dhol-Tasha. The event, set to take place at the Nassau Coliseum, has drawn thousands of Indian community members eager to catch a glimpse of the PM, with many arriving as early as five hours before the event.

Artists from various cultural groups played traditional music to welcome the Prime Minister, adding to the atmosphere of excitement and pride. The “Modi and US” programme is scheduled for noon local time, where PM Modi is expected to address the diaspora and reflect on the deepening ties between India and the United States.

Members of the Indian community were seen rehearsing dance performances, preparing to showcase their cultural heritage at the event. A member of the Dhol-Tasha troupe shared their excitement, saying, “We are thrilled that PM Modi is here. Though we live in the US, we hold our Indian roots close. Playing Dhol-Tasha in front of the Prime Minister is a way of keeping our traditions alive.”

Another performer echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural practices for future generations. “It’s a rare opportunity to see him in person, and we’re looking forward to it. We hope to pass on our folk music from Maharashtra to our children, keeping the culture vibrant.”

Members of the Indian diaspora also expressed admiration for PM Modi’s work. One attendee highlighted the Prime Minister’s initiatives for disadvantaged communities in rural India. “He’s made great strides in bringing education, financial help, and basic necessities to remote villages.”

PM Modi’s visit to New York marks the second leg of his three-day tour of the United States. In addition to his address at the Nassau Coliseum, he will participate in the UN Summit of the Future and attend a CEO roundtable, as well as chair important bilateral meetings.

Earlier, on Saturday, Modi attended the sixth Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, hosted by US President Joe Biden. The summit brought together the leaders of Australia, Japan, India, and the US to discuss key strategic and diplomatic issues, further strengthening the Quad alliance.
