Jammu and Kashmir elections: Women-led pink polling stations set up across multiple districts for phase 2

September 25, 2024 9:50 AM IST

A pink polling station has been set up in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district as phase 2 of the assembly elections commenced on Wednesday. Similar stations have also been established in other districts, including Reasi and Naushera.

These polling stations, fully managed by women, aim to create a welcoming environment and encourage greater female participation in the electoral process.

Local officials have emphasized the significance of this women-centric approach, designed to attract and empower women voters in the region.

In the first phase of polling, a total of 1,176,441 men and 1,151,042 women cast their votes, according to data released by the Election Commission of India. Women voter turnout exceeded that of men in six districts across the 24 constituencies that went to polls during the first phase on September 18.

Voting for the second phase of the assembly elections began at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, with over 2.5 million eligible voters expected to decide the fate of 239 candidates across 26 constituencies in six districts of the Union Territory.
