As the counting of votes for the Assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir commenced on Tuesday, early trends indicated a strong lead for Congress candidates in both regions. In response, Congress workers celebrated with traditional sweets, including laddoos and jalebis, accompanied by lively dhol beats and chants of support.

By 9:30 AM, Congress was leading in 18 seats in Haryana and 33 in Jammu & Kashmir. Visuals captured Congress worker Jagdish Sharma and others distributing jalebis and laddoos outside the party headquarters as the results began to roll in.

Sharma said, “This is Haryana’s famous jalebi. We have brought laddus as well, and if they symbolize victory, even better. Today, the whole of Haryana stands with Rahul Gandhi.”

Workers attributed the party’s optimism to Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and Nyay Yatra initiatives, which focus on advocating for farmers, women, and laborers while promoting inclusivity across various communities.

Sharma added, “Even people from the BJP are congratulating us. This is a victory of truth over lies. The public appreciates Rahul Gandhi’s efforts for farmers, women, and laborers, and we are confident about winning in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir.”

Counting for the Assembly elections began at 8 AM. The Jammu & Kashmir elections covered 90 constituencies and took place over three phases from September 18 to October 1, while polling in Haryana concluded on October 5.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed confidence in forming a government for the third consecutive term, highlighting the BJP’s focus on service over the Congress’s alleged pursuit of power. “Today, I am certain that our ten years of honest governance will lead us to victory,” he said after offering prayers at the Shri Dakshin Mukhi Hanuman Temple.

To ensure an orderly counting process, the Haryana Chief Electoral Officer announced the establishment of 93 counting centers across 22 districts. Ninety counting observers have been appointed to oversee the proceedings, which will be closely monitored and reported in real time.

In Jammu & Kashmir, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah expressed hope for a positive outcome, wishing his colleagues well as the results were anticipated. The Election Commission reported a voter turnout of 63.88% across the Union Territory, with the highest turnout of 69.69% in the third phase.

Security measures have been heightened at counting centers, with strict protocols in place to ensure a smooth counting process. Candidates and their representatives will be allowed inside strong rooms for the count, while mobile phones are prohibited.
