Vivaan Kapoor secured a silver medal in trap shooting at the ongoing International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final on Thursday. Vivaan finished second in the final with a score of 44. China’s QI Ying claimed the gold with 47 points, while Turkey’s N. Tolga Tuncer took the bronze with 35 points.
In the skeet shooting competition, Anant Jeet Singh Naruka earned a bronze medal with a score of 43. Italy’s Tammaro Cassandro and Gabriele Rossetti secured the top two positions with scores of 57 and 56, respectively.
On Wednesday, Akhil Sheoran won bronze in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) event, marking his first World Cup Final medal. Ganemat Sekhon set a new national record in women’s skeet, as European nations dominated the second day of the competition. The ISSF World Cup Final Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun New Delhi 2024 is being held at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range (DKSSR).
India now has a total of four medals in the World Cup Final, with two silver and two bronze.
A seasoned competitor with ISSF medals at every level, Sheoran had only the World Cup Final missing from his collection, and he delivered in style at the DKSSR. His familiar comeback in the final standing position, moving up from mid-table, thrilled the home fans. Earlier in the day, Sheoran had shot a solid 589 to qualify in sixth place for the eight-man final. He was outperformed by fellow Indian Chain Singh, who scored 590 to finish fourth in the 12-man field.
Both Indians were in sixth and seventh place after the first 15 kneeling shots of the 45-shot final, but Sheoran surged into joint third during the second prone position, tying with eventual silver medalist Jiri Privratsky of Czechia.
On the first day of the competition, Sonam Uttam Maskar, a double silver medalist at the Cairo World Cup earlier this year, added another silver to her tally. It was her first World Cup Final medal and India’s first of the competition. China’s Olympic gold medalist Huang Yuting won gold with a world and junior world record score of 254.5, edging Sonam by 1.6 points.
