IFFI 2024

Spotlight turns to Goa as IFFI 2024 kicks off from Nov 20

The 55th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will commence in Goa on November 20, featuring a spectacular line-up of films and cultural events. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), is set to host the nine-day festival, which will continue till November 28.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant shared the highlights of the festival, which promises to be a vibrant celebration of cinematic excellence and Goan culture. A key focus will be on young filmmakers, with over 1,000 entries received for the CMOT section, more than double last year’s participation.

The festival will screen 180+ international films from 81 countries, including 16 world premieres, 43 Asian premieres, and 109 Indian premieres. Australia is the “Country of Focus,” with the festival opening with ‘Better Man’, a biographical film about British pop star Robbie Williams. The Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Australian director Philip Noyce, known for his iconic films like ‘Patriot Games’ and ‘Salt’.

In a bid to support emerging talent, IFFI 2024 is set to introduce the Best Indian Debut Director Award and will feature 25+ masterclasses and panels with industry giants like AR Rahman and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The festival will also highlight diversity and inclusion, showcasing 47 films directed by women and 66 by young filmmakers.

This year’s ‘IFFiesta’ will add an interactive dimension to the festival, offering a mix of music, dance, food, and immersive exhibitions. For the first time, IFFI will be fully accessible, with features like audio descriptions and sign language interpretation to ensure an inclusive experience for all attendees.

With enhanced infrastructure, including six additional theatres and a larger Film Bazaar, IFFI 2024 aims to be a groundbreaking event, drawing film lovers, industry professionals, and cultural enthusiasts from around the world.
