In a move to showcase India’s rich textile heritage and expand its global market presence, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), in collaboration with the Consulate General of India, has launched the Hathkargha exhibition in Dubai. This cultural and commercial initiative brings together master artisans and international buyers, highlighting centuries-old craftsmanship while creating new economic opportunities.
The Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation (MHDC) stands out at the event, presenting exquisite traditional pieces including the vibrant phanek, Rani Phi, and handwoven shawls. These items present the distinctive weaving techniques that have been preserved through generations in the northeastern state. The event also features a diverse range of handloom treasures from across India, offering a glimpse into the country’s textile diversity.
The exhibition’s timing aligns with the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), facilitating stronger trade relations between India and the UAE. Over three days, focused business-to-business meetings are being conducted across Dubai, Sharjah, and the Textile City, creating a platform for artisans to connect directly with international markets.
By bridging traditional craftsmanship with modern commerce, Hathkargha represents a crucial step in preserving India’s handloom heritage while ensuring its economic viability in the contemporary global marketplace.
