Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the inaugural edition of the ‘Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav,’ a three-day cultural extravaganza celebrating the rich heritage of Northeast India, at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi.
The event, which runs from December 6 to 8, serves as a dynamic platform to showcase the region’s traditional craftsmanship, textile industry, tourism potential, and Geographical Indication (GI) tagged products.
During the inauguration, PM Modi toured various pavilions, engaging with artisans and craftsmen who proudly displayed their unique creations. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of Northeast India’s cultural and economic contributions to the nation.
Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, also attended the ceremony, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting the region’s growth and heritage.
The ‘Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav’ marks the first large-scale festival dedicated to celebrating the Northeast’s diverse culture and economic opportunities. Artisan exhibitions, state-specific pavilions, and ‘Grameen haats’ provide a platform to highlight traditional handicrafts, handlooms, and agricultural products.
Key events include an investors’ roundtable and buyer-seller meets aimed at fostering partnerships to boost economic development. A design conclave and fashion shows will also spotlight the region’s handloom and handicraft traditions on a national stage.
Beyond crafts, the festival showcases the Northeast’s cultural vibrancy through musical performances and indigenous cuisines, offering a holistic experience of the region’s heritage.
