Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launches nationwide ‘Fit India’ cycling initiative to promote health and tackle pollution

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, flagged off the ‘Fit India’ cycling movement at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday.

He highlighted that the initiative aims to promote fitness across the country, contributing to building a developed nation.

Mandaviya participated in the cycling ride from the stadium to Raisina Hills and back, urging people to adopt cycling as part of their routine.

He said, “Modi Ji launched the Fit India Movement to encourage fitness and nation-building.

We aim to cycle for one hour each week, starting today with events at 1,000 locations nationwide. Cycling promotes health and helps address pollution.”

The event saw participation from elite athletes, fitness influencers, and political figures, including BJP MP Tejasvi Surya.

Speaking to ANI, Surya emphasized the importance of sports and fitness for mental clarity, discipline, and perseverance.

According to an official release, the cycling event is a key initiative under the Fit India movement, promoting a healthier, greener India and raising awareness about improving the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports organized the event in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India, MY Bharat, SAI regional centers, National Centres of Excellence, Khelo India centers, and district administrations.

Launched by PM Narendra Modi in 2019, the Fit India movement aims to enhance health, sports participation, and promote indigenous games, laying the foundation for India as a sports superpower.
