Wrestler Aman Sehrawat raises concern over poor quality of Olympic medals

Amid reports that all defective medals from the 2024 Paris Olympics will be replaced, Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat has expressed concerns that his medal’s colour has begun to fade. However, Sehrawat has not yet officially requested a replacement.

“The bronze medal that Aman Sehrawat won in Paris seems defective. The colour has started fading. We have not shared an official complaint with the IOC as yet,” as per sources cited by IANS.

In recent weeks, numerous athletes around the world have posted images of their worn-out medals on social media.

Reports indicate that Monnaie de Paris, the organization that produced the medals for the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, has said it will replace all damaged medals upon athletes’ requests after receiving multiple complaints about the medals’ deterioration.

According to the French website La Lettre, more than 100 defective medals have already been returned by athletes to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee (Cojop) in just four months.

Each Paris 2024 medal, designed by Chaumet, a luxury French jeweller, featured a hexagonal piece of iron from France’s most iconic symbol: the Eiffel Tower. A 0.6-ounce piece of puddle iron is at the center of each medal.
