The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire despite the ongoing ceasefire, while Israeli operations in the West Bank continue to result in casualties, according to the United Nations.
“The UN and its humanitarian partners continue to deliver life-saving assistance across the Gaza Strip, but the scale of needs remains overwhelming, requiring urgent and sustained support,” the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated.
OCHA reported that Gaza’s hospitals, including Al Shifa and Al Rantisi in Gaza City, are in urgent need of oxygen supplies to sustain emergency, surgical, and intensive care services. Health partners are working with authorities to secure generators, spare parts, and equipment to facilitate local oxygen production, Xinhua news agency reported.
Over the weekend, humanitarian teams distributed tarpaulins to more than 11,000 families in northern Gaza. In Khan Younis, approximately 450 displaced families received sealing-off kits, kitchen supplies, and hygiene kits at a shelter in Al Mawasi.
Educational efforts are also expanding, with more than 250,000 people enrolled in a distance learning program provided by the UN’s relief agency for Palestinian refugees. However, humanitarian organizations report that 95% of school buildings suffered damage during the conflict, forcing many students to attend classes in makeshift tents or outdoor spaces amid winter conditions.
Ongoing Violence in the West Bank
In the West Bank, Israeli military operations, which began on January 21, have resulted in at least 36 Palestinian deaths—the deadliest campaign in two decades. Of these casualties, 25 occurred in Jenin and nearly a dozen in Tulkarm. The operation has led to widespread displacement, particularly in refugee camps, while critical infrastructure has sustained severe damage, further exacerbating humanitarian needs.
OCHA also raised concerns over the Israeli military’s use of lethal, war-like tactics, questioning whether they exceed law enforcement standards.
Additionally, over the weekend, Israeli settlers reportedly attacked Palestinian residents in multiple villages in the Nablus governorate, with one incident involving the burning of a Palestinian home. Humanitarian partners are mobilizing resources to assist affected communities.
