India hosts second MRSAM Eco-System Summit to boost indigenous air defence capabilities

The Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS), in collaboration with Aerospace Services India (ASI) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), organised the second edition of the Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) India Eco-System Summit at the Manekshaw Centre on Wednesday. The event, according to the Ministry of Defence, focused on strengthening India’s air and missile defence capabilities in alignment with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India initiatives.

The day-long summit brought together senior representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the Armed Forces, DRDO, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), and several leading Indian defence manufacturers. The participants reiterated their commitment to bolstering India’s stature as a global centre for advanced defence systems.

The summit’s inaugural session was presided over by senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and featured addresses by key industry leaders. Discussions emphasised the growing synergy between the Indian and Israeli defence sectors and explored future opportunities for collaboration.

Key highlights of the summit included panel discussions on enhancing operational readiness and achieving self-reliance in missile systems, technology demonstrations—most notably ASI’s AI-powered service management platform, STORMS—and industry interactions aimed at expanding India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem.

The event also spotlighted the contributions of the ASI-IAI wholly-owned Indian subsidiary, which provides technical representation, life-cycle support, and facilitates local manufacturing for the MRSAM system, including its key subsystems such as the BARAK 8 missile and the Air Defence Fire Control Radar.
