India warns of “blatant escalation” as Pakistan targets civilians with drones; BSF destroys terror launch pad in in Sialkot’s Looni

The Indian Army said on Saturday that Pakistan was continuing its “blatant escalation” along the western border through repeated drone incursions and munitions attacks, warning that such “enemy designs” would be thwarted.

In a post on X, the Ministry of Defence said Pakistan continued hostilities on May 10 by targeting civilian areas and religious sites, including the historic Shambhu Temple in Jammu.

“Multiple armed drones were sent through the night, endangering civilians and religious sites. The Indian Armed Forces remain vigilant and are committed to defending the sovereignty of the nation,” the ministry said.

In a separate update, the ministry called the continued use of drone incursions and munitions along the western front a “matter of grave concern.”

“At approximately 0500 hrs today, multiple armed enemy drones were detected over Khasa Cantt, Amritsar. Our air defence units responded swiftly, intercepting and neutralising all hostile UAVs. This blatant attempt to violate India’s sovereignty and endanger civilian lives is unacceptable,” it added.

Earlier, the Defence Ministry had reported drone sightings at 26 locations along the International Border and Line of Control (LoC), including suspected armed drones. The affected areas include Baramulla, Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet, and Lakhi Nala.

Meanwhile, in a retaliatory operation following unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers on Friday night, the Border Security Force (BSF) confirmed the complete destruction of a terrorist launch pad in Looni, Sialkot district of Pakistan, across from the Akhnoor sector in Jammu.

“On May 9, from about 2100 hrs, Pakistan initiated unprovoked firing on BSF posts in the Jammu Sector. BSF responded in a commensurate manner, causing widespread damage to the posts and assets of the Pakistan Rangers along the International Boundary. The terrorist launch pad at Looni, district Sialkot opposite Akhnoor area was completely destroyed by the BSF. Our resolve to protect India’s sovereignty is unshaken,” the BSF said in a statement.
