Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday chaired an all-party meeting in New Delhi, a day after Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor—a cross-border strike targeting terrorist infrastructure deep inside Pakistan.
At the meeting, Singh briefed leaders from across the political spectrum on the objectives, execution, and aftermath of the operation, as well as the government’s strategic preparedness to counter any escalation.
Top opposition figures, including Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, and others, attended the briefing. The leaders unanimously praised the Indian armed forces for the precision strikes and pledged full support to the government in its efforts to combat terrorism emanating from foreign soil.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “All parties showed solidarity with the government. All of them agreed that there was no scope for politics in matters of national security, and all spoke on similar lines. They complimented the armed forces and assured full support to the government.”
Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, said, “We have extended our full support to the government.”
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge added, “The Centre informed us about the operation, and we assured them of our support in the national interest.”
AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi also lauded the armed forces and called on the government to escalate diplomatic efforts to designate The Resistance Front (TRF)—the outfit that claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack—as a global terrorist organisation.
“I complimented the armed forces and the government for Operation Sindoor. We should begin an international campaign to get TRF designated as a terrorist group by the UN Security Council. We must also seek US support in declaring it a terrorist outfit,” Owaisi said.
