Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday urged citizens to adopt a healthier and more eco-friendly lifestyle through the “Fit India Sundays on Cycle” initiative.
Organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Raahgiri Foundation, My Bikes and MY Bharat, the campaign is held simultaneously across all state and Union Territory capitals, encouraging participation across age groups.
Taking part in a cycling event at his native village of Hanol in Gujarat, Mandaviya urged villagers to download the Fit India mobile app and make use of its unique carbon credit feature.
“I would urge everyone to download the Fit India app and check how much carbon is being saved by cycling to work or even around the village,” he said, adding that the app also tracks distance, time, heart rate and other health indicators.
Mandaviya highlighted how cycling not only improves personal health but also contributes to a cleaner, greener environment.
Since its launch in December 2024, the initiative has reached more than 46,000 locations nationwide and engaged over 800,000 participants, according to MYAS. The FIT India app, Mandaviya noted, makes fitness measurable by converting daily activity into health metrics as well as avoiding carbon emissions.
“Cycling is a powerful tool against both obesity and pollution,” Mandaviya said, urging people to turn the Sunday tradition into a lifelong habit.
The campaign on Sunday was organised at 5,000 locations in partnership with the National Cadet Corps (NCC), with nearly 3,000 Namo Fit India Clubs joining the movement.
In Delhi, over 1,200 cyclists gathered at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium before participating in Zumba, yoga, meditation and rope-skipping sessions. The campaign was also held at Patiala Locomotive Works, where more than 100 riders from the Railway Sports Promotion Board joined a cycling training camp organised by Indian Railways.
