Lok Sabha adjourned till 2 pm amid opposition protests; routine business conducted briefly

The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm on Tuesday, the second time during the day, following persistent disruptions by Opposition members who raised slogans and displayed placards demanding a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.

The uproar began shortly after the House reassembled at noon, having earlier been adjourned due to similar protests.

Chairing the session, Krishna Prasad Tenneti informed members that the Speaker had declined to admit several adjournment motion notices on procedural grounds.

This immediately drew strong protests from Opposition benches. Despite repeated appeals for order, MPs continued shouting slogans from the well of the House, forcing the Chair to adjourn proceedings until 2 pm.

Before the adjournment, some parliamentary business was briefly conducted. Ministers Krishan Pal (Cooperation) and Nityanand Rai (Home Affairs) laid papers on the table. Committee reports were presented by Biplab Kumar Deb, Gopal Jee Thakur, Balashowry Vallabhaneni, Madhavaneni Raghunandan Rao, Etala Rajender, Nishikant Dubey, Bhartruhari Mahtab, and Vijay Kumar Dubey, covering issues ranging from members’ attendance and offices of profit to India’s economic roadmap, renewable energy in rural areas, and responses to subordinate legislation.

Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth also moved a motion for electing two members to the Central Advisory Committee for the National Cadet Corps.

Earlier in the day, Speaker Om Birla announced that Lok Sabha interpretation services have now been expanded to cover all 22 languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The services now include Kashmiri, Konkani, and Santhali, completing the constitutional language roster.
