PM Modi reviews defence preparedness at Combined Commanders’ Conference in Kolkata

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness of the Armed Forces at the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference (CCC) held in Kolkata, West Bengal.

The Prime Minister was briefed on operational readiness in the backdrop of the “new normal” shaped by Operation Sindoor, and on the future of warfare with emerging technologies and evolving tactics. He also took stock of reforms implemented in the past two years and plans outlined for the next phase.

Complimenting the Armed Forces for the success of Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister lauded their role in nation building, anti-piracy operations, safe evacuation of Indian citizens from conflict zones, and providing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) to friendly countries.

Calling 2025 the ‘Year of Reforms’ in defence, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Defence to accelerate measures aimed at strengthening jointness, promoting Aatmanirbharta, and driving innovation to meet future challenges.

Defence Minister will address the Commanders on September 16, while the Chief of Defence will speak on September 17.

The Combined Commanders’ Conference, held once every two years, serves as the highest-level forum for dialogue between the nation’s top political leadership and the military. This year’s theme, ‘Year of Reforms – Transformation for the Future’, reflects the ongoing focus on modernisation and transformation of the Armed Forces.

Over the next two days, the conference will review structural, administrative and operational matters, assess preparedness in the face of global uncertainties, and chart the roadmap for implementing the Prime Minister’s vision.

The discussions at CCC 2025 will centre around reforms, transformation, change, and operational preparedness. The deliberations aim to enhance integration, technological modernisation, and multi-domain readiness to ensure the Armed Forces remain agile and effective in a complex geo-strategic environment.

In keeping with tradition, the conference will also feature interactive sessions with officers and personnel of different ranks, ensuring field-level perspectives contribute to decision-making at the highest level.
