PM Modi to inaugurate Navi Mumbai airport, Mumbai Metro Line-3, and launch integrated mobility app on Wednesday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Maharashtra on 8–9 October, with major engagements in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai, including the inauguration of the Phase 1 of Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), the final phase of Mumbai Metro Line-3, and the launch of the “Mumbai One” integrated mobility app. The visit underscores the government’s focus on modern infrastructure, urban mobility, and skill development in the state.

Navi Mumbai International Airport

On Wednesday, PM Modi will undertake a walkthrough of the newly built NMIA at around 3 PM, followed by its inauguration at 3:30 PM. Developed under a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) at a cost of approximately ₹19,650 crore, NMIA is India’s largest Greenfield airport project and the second international airport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Spread across 1,160 hectares, the airport is expected to handle 90 million passengers and 3.25 million metric tonnes of cargo annually.

Among its modern features, NMIA will include an Automated People Mover (APM) connecting all passenger terminals and city-side infrastructure, dedicated storage for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), solar power generation of around 47 MW, EV bus services, and water taxi connectivity — a first for any airport in India.

Mumbai Metro Line-3 and Integrated Mobility App

PM Modi will also inaugurate Phase 2B of Mumbai Metro Line-3, connecting Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade at an estimated cost of ₹12,200 crore. With this, the entire Aqua Line, spanning 33.5 km with 27 stations, will be dedicated to the nation, serving around 13 lakh passengers daily. The fully underground metro will provide seamless access to South Mumbai’s heritage precincts, financial hubs, and key administrative offices, including the RBI, Bombay Stock Exchange, and Mantralaya.

The “Mumbai One” app will integrate 11 public transport operators, allowing commuters to use a single digital ticket across metro, monorail, suburban rail, and bus services. The app offers real-time journey updates, route alternatives, digital ticketing, and safety features, enhancing convenience, efficiency, and commuter safety.

Skill Development Initiative

Another key highlight of PM Modi’s visit will be the inauguration of the Short-Term Employability Program (STEP), launched by Maharashtra’s Department of Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation. STEP will operate across 400 Government ITIs and 150 technical high schools, creating 2,500 training batches, including women-only batches and courses in emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, EV, Solar, and Additive Manufacturing.

UK Prime Minister Visit and Global Fintech Fest 2025

On 9 October, PM Modi will host UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in Mumbai to review the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the Vision 2035 roadmap. Both leaders will attend a CEO Forum and the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest (GFF 2025) at the Jio World Centre, delivering keynote addresses.

GFF 2025, themed “Empowering Finance for a Better World,” will bring together policymakers, regulators, investors, innovators, and academicians from over 75 countries, featuring 7,500 companies, 800 speakers, 400 exhibitors, and 70 regulators.
