Dr. Jitendra Singh calls for intergenerational synergy to boost nation building

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh on Tuesday emphasised the importance of intergenerational synergy among Gen X, Y, and Z for achieving optimum outcomes in nation building. Speaking at the CII Health Conclave Special Plenary on “Empowering Senior Care,” he called for redefining the role of senior citizens as equal partners in a shared national mission.

Highlighting the blend of experience and youthful energy, Dr. Singh said senior citizens with progressive mindsets can seamlessly adapt to modern culture while contributing traditional knowledge, values, and expertise. “Just as interdisciplinary collaboration drives innovation, intergenerational integration is vital for healthy nation-building,” he remarked. He described this approach as a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of combining high-tech and deep-tech with India’s age-old knowledge systems.

Dr. Singh also challenged conventional perceptions of old age, noting that many senior citizens have witnessed every technological shift—from black-and-white television to social media—and termed them “Gen Z+.” He stressed the need for lifelong learning and adaptability, alongside efforts to maintain the physical and mental health of citizens aged 60 and above.

Referring to government reforms in pension administration, he highlighted the use of biometric and face-authentication systems to simplify life certification for pensioners, and announced that over 85,000 central government pensioners are above 90 years, with nearly 2,500 crossing 100. Pension rules have been revised to provide 65% of the last drawn salary after 90 years and full salary after 100.

Dr. Singh underlined the government’s focus on preventive healthcare and the role of private sector partnerships in senior care and healthcare innovation, saying traditional barriers between sectors have diminished to create a more enabling ecosystem. Concluding his address, he said, “Senior citizens bring depth, Gen Z brings drive—and together, they can form the most productive synergy for a new India.”
