Though the film failed commercially, it opened the door to future opportunities.

His first major hit came with Shola Aur Shabnam (1961), followed by Anpadh (1962) and Bandini (1963). In 1966, his reunion with Meena Kumari in Phool Aur Patthar catapulted him to stardom, establishing him as one of the most sought-after romantic heroes of the 1960s and early 1970s.

Films like Sholay, Dharam Veer, Jugnu, Raja Jani, Seeta Aur Geeta, Yaadon Ki Baraat, Charas, and Azaad cemented his status as a versatile performer who could switch between romance, comedy, and high-octane action.

In 2023, he made a striking impression in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, earning praise from a new generation of viewers. He was most recently seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and had the upcoming film Ikkis in the pipeline.

Beyond films, Dharmendra served as Member of Parliament from Bikaner (2004–2009), judged India’s Got Talent (2011), and appeared in the historical series Taj: Divided by Blood.
