A high-level delegation, headed by Andhra Pradesh Governor Justice S. Abdul Nazeer, will travel to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to coordinate relief efforts with local authorities following the tragic accident involving Indian pilgrims near Madinah on 17 November. He will be accompanied by Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa & Overseas Indian Affairs) at the Ministry of External Affairs. The delegation is also expected to attend the last rites of the deceased.
The Government of India has expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wishing a swift recovery to the injured. Officials said the team’s visit aims to ensure close coordination with Saudi authorities, including the Ministry of Haj and Umrah, to provide full support to affected Indian nationals.
The Embassy of India in Riyadh and the Consulate General of India in Jeddah are working with Saudi agencies to expedite the identification of the mortal remains. The government is also facilitating the travel of the families of the victims to Saudi Arabia as part of its assistance efforts.
