Ministry of Panchayati Raj to observe Constitution Day nationwide on November 26

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj will lead a nationwide observance of Constitution Day (Samvidhan Diwas) on November 26 across all three-tier Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Rural Local Bodies (RLBs).

The Ministry is coordinating the initiative in partnership with State and Union Territory Departments of Panchayati Raj, SIRDs and PRs, PESA mobilizers, Panchayati Raj Associates, SoEPR at NIRD&PR and other associated platforms. According to the Ministry, extensive virtual consultations have ensured preparedness and wide participation at the grassroots level.

At 11 a.m. on November 26, the day will be marked with a reading of the Preamble at the Ministry headquarters. The ceremony will be led by Secretary Vivek Bharadwaj in the presence of senior officers and staff. Quiz and essay competitions on the theme ‘Know Your Constitution’ are also being organised for Ministry employees.

Simultaneously, Panchayats across the country will conduct mass Preamble readings in local languages. Discussions, seminars and quizzes on constitutional values will also be held. A nationwide ‘Constitution Connect – Preamble Reading Relay’, running from 10 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., will see each State and Union Territory participate in a 15-minute segment. The event will be livestreamed on the Ministry’s official YouTube channel.

States and UTs have been advised to encourage PRIs and RLBs to create ‘Preamble Walls’ through community art and to organise ‘Our Village, Our Constitution’ gatherings with youth groups, Self-Help Groups and community organisations. State-level coordination cells have been activated to support the activities, with a particular focus on ensuring strong participation in PESA areas.
