Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026, hosted by Masdar under the patronage of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will begin next week, bringing together heads of state, ministers, government officials, business leaders, investors and innovators to address key global sustainability challenges.
Speaking at a press conference, Masdar chief executive Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi said the event has become the world’s largest sustainability gathering and that the 2026 edition will be its biggest to date. “We stand at a critical moment: we need to align the systems we rely on today with those we urgently need tomorrow,” he said, adding that the theme “The nexus of next: all systems go” reflects the need for global systemic change, with energy transformation at the centre of discussions.
IRENA director-general Francesco La Camera said electricity is projected to become the dominant energy carrier by 2050 and called for practical, scalable solutions to make energy systems future-ready, particularly for developing countries. Abu Dhabi Department of Energy executive director Ahmed Al Falasi highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in making energy and water systems smarter, cleaner and more resilient.
ADSW 2026 will introduce new platforms and AI-enabled systems and showcase advanced clean technologies. The programme includes the IRENA Assembly, World Future Energy Summit, Zayed Sustainability Prize awards and a series of forums focused on climate finance, youth engagement and green hydrogen.
