Israel and Syria agree to share intelligence following Paris talks

Israel and Syria reached an agreement to exchange intelligence information and pursue commercial opportunities aimed at reducing military tensions and strengthening diplomatic relations. The arrangement emerged from discussions held in Paris under the oversight of US special envoy Tom Barrack, where both nations committed to establishing a joint coordination mechanism.

The talks resulted in plans for a US-supervised ‘fusion’ cell designed to facilitate intelligence sharing, military de-escalation, diplomatic engagement and commercial ventures between the two countries. According to a joint statement issued by the US State Department on behalf of all three parties, the mechanism will serve as a platform to address any disputes promptly and work to prevent misunderstandings.

France’s role in hosting the security discussions reflects Syrian efforts to gain international recognition as what officials describe as a stable, unified and sovereign state. The US government expressed support for the developments, stating it “commends these positive steps and remains committed to supporting the implementation of these understandings, as part of broader efforts to achieve enduring peace in the Middle East.” The agreement marks a significant diplomatic shift between the two nations, which have technically remained in a state of war for decades.
