UAE and Bahrain agree to join Gaza ‘board of peace’ initiative

The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain have accepted invitations from US President Donald Trump to join a proposed “Board of Peace” for Gaza, signalling their support for a US-led initiative aimed at ending the conflict and advancing post-war reconstruction.UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan accepted the invitation, the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said on Tuesday. He said the decision reflects Abu Dhabi’s support for the full implementation of President Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza, which he described as essential to securing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Sheikh Abdullah said the UAE had confidence in President Trump’s leadership and commitment to global peace, adding that the country was ready to contribute actively to the board’s work in support of regional stability and prosperity. “The UAE is prepared to play an active role in advancing cooperation and peace through this initiative,” he said.

Bahrain also formally accepted the invitation on January 20, with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa confirming the kingdom’s participation. Bahrain’s foreign ministry said joining the board aligns with its support for the US peace plan and efforts to promote stability in Gaza and the wider region. The Board of Peace is expected to play a central role in the second phase of the US plan, focusing on reconstruction, humanitarian assistance and governance. Bahrain’s decision comes as it begins a two-year term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2026–2027.
