Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on Saturday to inaugurate the Semiconductor Assembly, Test and Packaging (ATMP) facility of Micron Semiconductor Technology India Private Limited in Sanand. He is scheduled to inaugurate the facility at around 3:45 PM and address a gathering on the occasion.
The inauguration marks a major milestone in India’s semiconductor manufacturing journey, as commercial production and shipment of the first made-in-India semiconductor memory modules will commence from the Sanand facility.
The project is the first proposal approved under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). The ground-breaking ceremony was held in September 2023. With a total investment of over ₹22,500 crore, construction began soon after approval, reflecting the Centre’s push to accelerate strategic semiconductor investments in the country.
Once fully operational, the Sanand facility will house approximately 500,000 square feet of cleanroom space, making it one of the world’s largest raised-floor cleanrooms. The facility is designed to serve customers globally and cater to the rising demand for memory and storage solutions driven by advancements in Artificial Intelligence and high-performance computing.
The ATMP unit will convert advanced Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) and NAND semiconductor wafers from Micron’s global manufacturing network into finished memory and storage products for domestic and international markets.
