Indian Railways to Operate Over 18,000 Summer Special Train Trips

Indian Railways will operate 18,262 summer special train trips across the country between April 15 and July 15, 2026, to cater to the surge in passenger demand during the peak travel season, the Ministry of Railways said on Monday.

According to the Ministry, a total of 908 summer special trains have been approved for operation during this period to ensure smoother and more convenient travel for passengers.

Out of these, 660 trains have already been notified, accounting for 11,294 trips, enabling passengers to plan their journeys in advance.

The Ministry said the large-scale deployment of special trains reflects Indian Railways’ proactive approach to managing seasonal rush during vacations, festivals and peak travel months.

Zone-wise, Central Railway, East Central Railway and North Western Railway have emerged as the top contributors in terms of the number of trips planned.

The services will span across all major railway zones, ensuring balanced regional connectivity and efficient handling of increased passenger traffic.

The Ministry of Railways said the introduction of these trains is expected to reduce waiting lists, provide additional berths, and enhance connectivity between key destinations.

It added that the move will help ensure smoother and more comfortable journeys for millions of passengers during the summer travel season.

By deploying special trains on high-demand routes, Indian Railways aims to minimise inconvenience and improve overall travel experience.

The Ministry reiterated that passenger convenience remains a top priority, with timely planning and expanded services aimed at meeting rising demand efficiently during the summer months.
