DGCA orders inspection of Air India Boeing 787 fuel control switch after technical snag

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed further inspection of the fuel control switch of an Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft after a technical issue was reported following a London Heathrow-Bengaluru flight earlier this year.

According to the aviation regulator, the Air India aircraft, registered as VT-ANX, was grounded on February 2, 2026, after operating flight AI-132 from London Heathrow to Bengaluru.

The action was taken after an entry in the Pilot Defect Report stated that the left Fuel Control Switch (FCS) slipped from “RUN” to “CUTOFF” when pushed slightly and did not lock properly in the selected position.

Following recommendations from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Air India carried out inspection and functional testing of the fuel control switches in accordance with prescribed procedures in the presence of DGCA officials.

After reviewing the inspection results and technical evidence, the OEM concluded that the fuel control switch was mechanically functioning as designed and considered the unit serviceable.

However, the DGCA said that as part of continued airworthiness monitoring, it has directed that the fuel control switches be further inspected at the OEM facility in the presence of DGCA officers.
