External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi.
Jaishankar met Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and reviewed progress under the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as well as cooperation within the ASEAN framework.
“Glad to welcome FM Sugiono of Indonesia. Reviewed the progress of our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and our cooperation with ASEAN,” Jaishankar said in a post on X.
The External Affairs Minister is scheduled to chair the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting later in the day.
On Wednesday, Jaishankar also held bilateral talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and discussed cooperation across sectors under the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
“This evening, had a productive exchange of views with FM Sergey Lavrov of Russia here in Delhi. Our conversation touched upon several aspects of the Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership, including trade & investment, energy & connectivity, science & technology, as well as facilitating mobility of skills & talent. Other global and multilateral issues of mutual interest were also discussed,” Jaishankar said in another post on X.
He also met Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and exchanged views on bilateral, regional and global issues.
During his meeting with Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam, Jaishankar highlighted India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and reviewed bilateral cooperation between the two countries. He also reiterated India’s commitment to the Maldives’ development and progress.
The meetings took place on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, where ministers from BRICS member and partner countries are expected to deliberate on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the participating foreign ministers and heads of delegations will also call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
