Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday unveiled a plan to establish a single integrated hub in Mumbai to bring together various offices and organisations under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, aiming to improve efficiency, reduce administrative costs and simplify citizen services.
Addressing officials and stakeholders in Mumbai, the minister said the initiative is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Ease of Living” and “Ease of Doing Business,” and is intended to make government interaction more seamless for citizens and businesses.
Goyal said that currently, 20 offices belonging to 12 different organisations under the ministry are spread across multiple locations in Mumbai, occupying large amounts of premium commercial space. Under the proposed plan, these offices will be brought together, wherever feasible, into a single centralised facility.
The integrated hub will digitally connect stakeholders with 46 organisations functioning under the ministry. It will also provide access to organisations that do not currently have dedicated physical offices in Mumbai, including bodies such as the Spices Board.
The minister said the facility will include modern audio-visual infrastructure and dedicated personnel to assist businesses, exporters and citizens with various requirements under one roof.
Goyal said the move is expected to significantly reduce administrative expenditure, improve productivity and simplify government processes for stakeholders.
He also highlighted the environmental benefits of the initiative, stating that the co-location model would help conserve energy, reduce fuel consumption and minimise travel for both government officials and the public.
The minister said the integrated offices would also serve as a key centre for India’s export promotion efforts, supporting the government’s ambitious export targets of USD 1 trillion this year and USD 2 trillion by 2030.
He added that the structural integration of ministry offices and organisations is expected to strengthen coordination and accelerate trade facilitation initiatives aimed at boosting India’s global trade footprint.
