Government invites applications for National Teachers Awards 2026; online nominations open till July 10

The Union Ministry of Education has invited online applications and nominations for the National Teachers Awards 2026, aimed at recognising outstanding contributions of teachers in improving the quality of school education and fostering the holistic development of students across the country.

The Department of School Education and Literacy announced that eligible teachers can submit their applications through the National Awards Portal between June 15 and July 10, 2026.

The prestigious awards are conferred annually to honour educators who have demonstrated excellence, innovation, dedication, and commitment in the field of school education. Teachers serving in schools run by the Central Government, State Governments, Union Territory administrations, local bodies, as well as aided and private schools affiliated with recognised education boards, are eligible to apply, subject to the prescribed guidelines.

The awards seek to acknowledge educators who have made significant contributions towards enhancing learning outcomes, adopting innovative teaching methods, and supporting the overall growth and development of students.

The detailed guidelines, eligibility conditions, evaluation criteria, and application process have been made available on the National Awards Portal. Interested teachers can submit self-nominations online and participate in a multi-stage selection process involving district, state, and national-level scrutiny.

As per the schedule released by the Ministry, self-nominations will be invited from June 15 to July 10, followed by final submission of applications from July 11 to July 13. District and regional selection committees will shortlist candidates between July 14 and July 21, while state and organisation-level committees will conduct further screening from July 22 to July 29.

Shortlisted candidates will be informed between July 30 and July 31 and will subsequently interact with an Independent National Jury. The jury evaluation process is scheduled from August 3 to August 7, with final recommendations expected by August 8.

Selected awardees will be informed after receiving approval from the Union Education Minister, likely between August 10 and August 20.

The award ceremony and rehearsals are scheduled to take place on September 4 and 5, 2026, coinciding with the celebration of Teachers’ Day.

The National Teachers Awards remain one of the highest recognitions for school teachers in India, highlighting the vital role educators play in shaping the future of the nation and strengthening the education system.

Teachers seeking to apply can access the nomination portal and detailed guidelines through the official National Awards website.
