Indian Navy ships conclude Vietnam visit, continue deployment in Southeast Asia

Indian Naval Ships Udaygiri and Kavaratti departed Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday after completing a successful port call to Vietnam, reaffirming the growing maritime partnership between India and Vietnam and strengthening regional security cooperation.

The ships, operating under the command of Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet (FOCEF), will continue their deployment in the Southeast Asian region. During the visit, Rear Admiral Ananda held discussions with senior officials of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and the Vietnam People’s Navy, exchanging views on maritime cooperation, professional collaboration and regional maritime security.

As part of the engagements, the Indian delegation paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh through a wreath-laying ceremony at his statue in Ho Chi Minh City. Rear Admiral Ananda, accompanied by the commanding officers of INS Udaygiri and INS Kavaratti, honoured the legacy of the Vietnamese leader.

The port call also featured a series of professional interactions and bilateral exercises involving personnel from the Indian Navy and the Vietnam People’s Navy. The engagements provided an opportunity for both sides to share operational experiences and further enhance cooperation aimed at ensuring maritime security and safe seas in the region.

Marking the 12th International Day of Yoga, naval personnel from both countries participated in a joint yoga session conducted onboard INS Kavaratti. The visit also saw the Ambassador of India to Vietnam, representatives of the Vietnam People’s Navy, members of the diplomatic community and other distinguished guests being hosted onboard INS Udaygiri.

India and Vietnam share an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership built on mutual trust, converging interests and strong people-to-people ties. The port call underscored India’s commitment to its Act East Policy and the MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) vision, while highlighting New Delhi’s continued focus on constructive maritime engagement with friendly countries across the Indo-Pacific.
