Jaishankar Meets Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez, Reaffirms Commitment to Stronger Bilateral Ties

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday met Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez in New Delhi and reaffirmed India’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said he was pleased to call on Rodriguez during her visit to India and appreciated her longstanding commitment to advancing India-Venezuela ties. He expressed confidence that her discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi would contribute to expanding cooperation across key sectors.

Rodriguez arrived in the national capital on Wednesday for a five-day working visit aimed at deepening the partnership between India and Venezuela. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the visit provides an opportunity for both sides to review bilateral relations and explore new areas of cooperation.

During her stay, the Venezuelan leader is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi and other senior Indian leaders. She is also expected to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

According to the MEA, Rodriguez is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes ministers handling foreign affairs, economy and finance, science and technology, communication and information, and transportation.

The discussions between the two sides are expected to cover the full spectrum of India-Venezuela relations, with particular focus on energy security, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation and renewable energy.

The visit comes at a time when energy cooperation remains an important pillar of bilateral engagement. Venezuela is among India’s key crude oil suppliers, and both countries have been exploring ways to further strengthen cooperation in the energy sector.

The MEA said the visit is expected to further deepen India-Venezuela ties and build on the momentum in the bilateral partnership.
