PM Modi highlights women-led development as cornerstone of New India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday highlighted the transformative role of women in India’s development journey over the past 12 years, asserting that the NDA government’s policies and initiatives have placed women at the centre of nation-building and economic progress.

Marking what he described as a decade-plus of focused efforts toward “women-led development,” the Prime Minister said the government’s approach has gone beyond welfare and concentrated on creating opportunities, ensuring dignity, and empowering women across all sectors of society.

In a post on X, PM Modi said the achievements of Indian women are visible across a wide range of fields, including financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, education, healthcare, sanitation, housing, sports, science, and governance.

“Over the last 12 years, the NDA Government has worked to further women-led development. And, this is visible across sectors,” the Prime Minister said.

He noted that government initiatives have helped create an ecosystem where women can realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to the country’s growth and development.

“From financial inclusion and entrepreneurship to education, healthcare, sanitation, housing, sports, science and governance, women are playing a prominent role across diverse sectors,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government’s efforts are rooted in the principles of dignity, opportunity, and empowerment. According to him, these initiatives have enabled women to emerge as key drivers of social and economic transformation.

Highlighting women’s growing participation in emerging and high-technology sectors, PM Modi expressed particular satisfaction at the increasing presence of women in science, space, innovation, and drone technology.

“I am particularly happy to see India’s Nari Shakti make a mark in sectors like science, space and innovation. Their growing participation in emerging fields such as drone technology is opening new avenues of opportunity and transforming the development landscape across the nation,” he said.

The Prime Minister also underlined the role of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in strengthening women’s economic independence. He said the government continues to actively support SHGs, which have become a major force in enhancing financial empowerment and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for millions of women across the country.

“Our Government is actively supporting Self Help Groups, which are going a long way in making women financially independent,” he added.

In another post, PM Modi paid tribute to India’s women and described them as the foundation of the nation’s progress. He said mothers, sisters, and daughters are contributing to the country’s development through their talent, dedication, and achievements across every field.

Sharing a Sanskrit Subhashitam, the Prime Minister emphasized the timeless importance of women in society and civilization.

“India’s Nari Shakti is the cornerstone of nation-building. Our mothers, sisters, and daughters are today enhancing the glory of Mother India with their extraordinary talent and skills in every field,” he said.

The Sanskrit verse shared by the Prime Minister described women as the creators and sustainers of the world and as the embodiment of divine power, or Shakti. The verse emphasized that women form the foundation of society and represent the source of strength and creation.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid the government’s continued emphasis on women-centric initiatives aimed at improving healthcare, education, entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, and leadership opportunities. Over the past decade, several flagship programmes such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, and the Lakhpati Didi initiative have sought to expand opportunities and improve the quality of life for women across the country.
