Prime Minister Narendra Modi | Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić

Serbian President congratulates PM Modi on historic tenure milestone

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday thanked Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić for his congratulatory message on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister.

In a post on X, President Vučić extended his greetings to Prime Minister Modi and lauded his leadership, describing the milestone as a reflection of the trust reposed in him by the people of India.

“Heartfelt congratulations to Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in the history of India,” the Serbian President wrote.

Praising Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, Vučić said longevity in public office reflects the confidence that citizens place in a leader committed to serving the people and advancing national interests.

“Such longevity in the highest office of the state reflects the trust that citizens place in a leader who has dedicated his life to serving the people and advancing his country,” he said.

The Serbian President further remarked that the true measure of a statesman lies not in the number of years spent in office, but in the legacy created, the results achieved and the vision that endures beyond political cycles.

Recalling his recent interaction with Prime Minister Modi, Vučić said their meeting was marked by mutual understanding and sincere respect.

“I recognised the wisdom of an experienced statesman and a leader who deeply understands the challenges of the modern world and the importance of preserving tradition, identity and national interests,” he said.

The Serbian leader added that Prime Minister Modi’s combination of experience, foresight and dedication to India has made him a globally respected voice.

“I wish Prime Minister Narendra Modi good health, continued success, and the strength to keep leading India on the path of progress and prosperity in the years to come,” Vučić said.

Responding to the message, Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude for the Serbian President’s wishes and reaffirmed the importance India attaches to its relations with Serbia.

“Thank you President Vučić for your warm and heartfelt wishes,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.

“I fondly recall your recent visit to India and our productive discussions. India deeply values its friendship with Serbia and I look forward to working together to further strengthen our partnership in the years ahead,” he added.

On June 10, Prime Minister Modi became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, completing 4,399 days in office and surpassing the record previously held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
