Around a thousand yoga enthusiasts and members of the diplomatic corps came together in Abu Dhabi on Sunday to mark International Yoga Day 2026, choosing one of the emirate’s most iconic landmarks as their backdrop.
The session was held under the distinctive dome of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, transforming the celebrated cultural venue into a space for collective wellness and mindfulness. Organised by the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi, the event embraced this year’s theme of Yoga for Healthy Ageing. The gathering brought together participants from across the diplomatic community and the wider public for a serene celebration of the annual day, now observed in over a hundred and seventy countries worldwide.
This year’s theme – Yoga for Healthy Ageing – reflects a growing global focus on wellness across all stages of life. Yoga’s emphasis on flexibility, breath, balance and mindfulness makes it particularly well-suited to supporting the health and vitality of older adults, while remaining accessible to practitioners of all ages. The United Nations, which designated June twenty-first as International Yoga Day in 2015, has said the theme underscores the role of yoga as a sustainable, low-cost tool for promoting physical and mental well-being in ageing populations worldwide.
