Floods have affected 37,032 people across six districts of Assam, according to the Assam Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS).
The latest DRIMS report, released on Tuesday, said the affected districts are Sonitpur, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Jorhat and Sivasagar. Flooding has impacted 12 revenue circles and 99 villages, while 1,103.943 hectares of cropland remain submerged. No river is currently flowing above the danger or highest flood level, the report added.
Lakhimpur is the worst-affected district, accounting for 35,696 of the total affected population, followed by Sonitpur with 1,178 people and Dhemaji with 158.
The state government has opened 20 relief distribution centres across the affected districts, though no relief camps are currently operational. A total of 6,984 people are receiving assistance through these centres.
The report said one person died in a flood-related incident in Sonitpur, while no one has been reported missing.
In Sivasagar district, temporary measures, including excavation of kutcha drains and installation of Hume pipes, have been undertaken in waterlogged areas to facilitate drainage and provide relief to residents.
Meanwhile, rising water levels in the Subansiri River following the opening of gates at the NHPC dam inundated more than 20 villages along the Majuli-Lakhimpur border. Floodwaters also washed away portions of the under-construction Chelek-Dhunaguri road at three locations, disrupting connectivity.
In Chirang district, residents of Nangalbhanga village and adjoining areas are facing severe hardship after heavy rainfall caused the Nangal Bhanga River to swell, triggering extensive soil erosion. The erosion has displaced several families and left many residents homeless.
