India’s campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 gathers momentum on Friday with Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra leading the charge in the men’s javelin throw final, while a record 10 Indian boxers, all assured of medals, will fight for places in their respective finals.
Neeraj, who qualified for the final with a best throw of 79.61m in challenging conditions at Scotstoun Stadium, will be aiming to add another Commonwealth Games gold to his collection. The Indian star faces stiff competition from defending champion Arshad Nadeem, Sri Lanka’s in-form Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, reigning world champion Keshorn Walcott and former world champion Anderson Peters. Fellow Indians Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh will also feature in the 12-man final.
India’s boxing contingent is on the verge of creating history after securing its best-ever medal haul at a Commonwealth Games. Ten Indian boxers, already guaranteed at least bronze medals, will compete in the semi-finals on Friday in a bid to progress to the gold medal bouts. The line-up includes Lovlina Borgohain, Preeti Pawar, Sakshi Chaudhary, Jaismine Lamboria, Priya Ghanghas, Arundhati Choudhary, Jadumani Singh Mandengbam, Sachin Siwach, Ankush Panghal and Narender Berwal.
In athletics, Tejaswin Shankar resumes his decathlon campaign after ending Thursday in second place overall and will look to stay in medal contention across the remaining events. Yashas Palaksha and Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan will also compete in the men’s 400m hurdles final.
India’s judo campaign begins on Friday with Harsh Singh (60kg), Shraddha Kadubal Chopade (52kg), Rohit Basir Majgul (66kg), Asmita Dey (48kg) and Yamini Mourya (57kg) opening their campaigns.
On the cycling track, Dinesh Kumar and Harshveer Singh Sekhon will compete in the men’s 4000m individual pursuit, while Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam, David Beckham Elkatohchoongo and Jemsh Singh Keithellakpam will feature in the men’s keirin. Harshveer Singh Sekhon will also contest the men’s elimination race later in the day.
In lawn bowls, Navneet Singh and Dinesh Kumar will take on Falkland Islands’ Ian Barnes and Oliver Thompson in the men’s pairs, while Nayanmoni Saikia faces Zambia’s Mildred Mkandawire in the women’s singles.
